RecyColumbus, the city’s residential recycling program, is expanding to eligible condominium and apartment complexes, and rowhouses and townhomes along city streets. Distribution of the carts started February 18, 2014.  Before the expansion, only residents living in single-family homes or in a building with four units or less that were not part of a complex were eligible for the residential recycling program.

“Residents in condo and apartment complexes have overwhelmingly asked for the recycling program and we are delivering,” Mayor Michael B. Coleman said. “We will build on the success of RecyColumbus and make Columbus even cleaner and greener than before.”

City Councilmember Michelle M. Mills today joined City crews to help deliver blue recycling carts to Bethel Village Condominiums, one of the complexes that are now eligible for the recycling program.

“Columbus residents have embraced the recycling program and are helping to create a more sustainable future for our city,” said Councilmember Mills, chair of the Environment Committee. “The expansion of RecyColumbus will make us an even greener city, and I encourage all eligible residents to take part in the program.”

The schedule to distribute the recycling carts to eligible apartment and condominium complexes will be based on the day of the week that recycling will be collected. The approximate schedule is as follows, weather permitting:

  • Monday collection:  Carts will be delivered February 18 – 28
  • Tuesday collection:  Carts will be delivered February 23 – March 7
  • Wednesday collection: Carts will be delivered March 3 – 14
  • Thursday collection:  Carts will be delivered March 10 – 21
  • Friday collection:  Carts will be delivered March 17 – 28

Apartment and condominium complexes that do not have 90 or 300-gallon trash collection service or have trash collection through a private company instead of the City of Columbus are not eligible for the residential recycling program.  Also, businesses are not eligible for the program.  For properties not eligible for residential recycling, the City encourages residents to drop off recyclables at a SWACO drop box.
