A Portage of Our Own

Pull out those kayaks! Dust off those canoes! The newest portage on Columbus’s Olentangy Water Trail is officially open, and it’s right here in Harrison West.

The city has some minor finishing touches to add—installing a sign, making sure the plantings survive, and so on—but the West Second Avenue boat portage opened for business on Monday, May 16, 2016. The site is exclusively designed for kayakers and canoers. No parking is available adjacent to the site, so you need to be able to carry your boat to the site and down a series of stone steps. Boats that require transportation on trailers will have to put in at one of the sites equipped for that kind of access.
