West Fifth Avenue Dam Removal Begins August 22
The city of Columbus has announced that the removal of the low-head dam on the Olentangy River at West Fifth Avenue will begin on August 22. More details are available at the Ohio State University Facilities Operations and Development site.
According to the city’s Department of Public Utilities, “The dam is an eight foot high, 475 foot wide structure built in 1935. It was used as a source of cooling water for the Ohio State University power plant, which is no longer in operation.” More information about the project’s history can be found on the department’s website.
