Resident Profile – Jonathan Putnam
1. What is your full name and its origin, or how was it given to you? Are you named after anyone? Do you have any nicknames?
JP: Jonathan Putnam. I’m deep WASP. My family came here from England in 1634 and settled in Salem, Mass. Some historians blame the origins of the Salem witch hysteria on my ancestors.
2. How old are you?
JP: 57
3. Where do you live in Harrison West? Do you own your house or rent?
JP: I own my house on Perry St. between Third and Fourth across from the Battelle Meadow.
4. If you own your house have you done any significant renovations to it? Please describe.
JP: New garage, hardwood floors, new bathroom, siding, and I’m thinking about a new front porch.
5. How long have you lived in Harrison West?
JP: Since 2001
6. What brought you here (HW) and where did you live before?
JP: I was living across from the Greek Church in what is now the second floor of Callahan’s. My girlfriend at the time went to an open house and I bought it that weekend.
7. Where were you born and where did you grow up?
JP: Upper Arlington.
8. How did you end up in Columbus if you are not from here?
JP: I’m in the theatre so I spent my early years living anywhere that would cast me. New York, L.A., Aspen, Cincinnati, etc.
9. Did you go to college? If so, where and what did you study?
JP: I have a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from OSU.
10. What do you do for a living? How did you end up in that occupation?
JP: For twenty-three years I was the Associate Artistic Director at CATCO. Now I’m a freelance actor/director/ voice-over guy. Folks may have heard my narrations on WOSU’s “Columbus Neighborhoods” series.
11. What do you like to do for fun?
JP: Reading, camping, drinking. Not necessarily in that order.
12. Do you live with a partner/spouse/kids? Tell us a little about them too!
JP: Solo.
13. Do you have any pets? If so what are they and what are their names?
JP: When I bought the house we had a sweet dog named Bella. But she lives in L.A. now.
14. What do you like about living in Harrison West?
JP: Location, location, location. I also like the mix of people and their determination to improve the neighborhood.
15. What are your favorite places to go out? Do you frequent any of the neighborhood businesses?
JP: Short North Tavern. I occasionally go to Apropos, Culpepper’s, Zeno’s.
