The Columbus Microbrew Festival Returns September 14-16

Columbus Microbrew Festival 2012Join the North Market for a weekend celebration of locally craft-brewed ales, lagers and stouts during the Columbus Microbrew Festival. This year, the North Market has expanded the boundaries of both the festival and the scope of included microbreweries to Spruce Street adjacent to the market. Ohio cities will be represented from A (Akron’s Thirsty Dog Brewing Company) to Z (Zanesville’s returning Weasel Boy Brewing Company) and quite a few in between! New microbreweries joining the fun this year include Buckeye Lake Brewery (Buckeye Lake), Four String Brewing Company (Columbus), Great Black Swamp Brewing Company (Toledo), Great Lakes Brewing Company (Cleveland), Hoof Hearted Brewing (Marengo), Mt. Carmel Brewing Company (Cincinnati), Thirsty Dog Brewing Company (Akron) and Zauber Brewing Company (Columbus).

Admission to the event and accompanying North Market activities is free. Beer tasting admission is $20 and includes a commemorative pint glass, ten tasting tickets and a $5 North Market food certificate. Discount coupons good for $2 off the tasting admission fee will be available at all participating microbreweries in September. Additional tasting tickets will be available for $.50 each. Tickets are available in advance online at the North Market business office and at the door on the days of the event.

Participating Ohio microbreweries include: Barley’s Brewing Company (Columbus), Barley’s Smokehouse & Brewpub (Columbus),Buckeye Lake Brewery (Buckeye Lake),Columbus Brewing Company (Columbus),Elevator Brewing Company (Columbus), Four String Brewing Company (Columbus), Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant (Columbus), Great Black Swamp Brewing Company (Toledo), Great Lakes Brewing Company (Cleveland), Hoof Hearted Brewing (Marengo), Hoster Brewing Company (Columbus), Mt. Carmel Brewing Company (Cincinnati), Neil House Brewery (Columbus), Thirsty Dog Brewing Company (Akron), Weasel Boy Brewing Company (Zanesville) and Zauber Brewing Company (Columbus). Representatives from each microbrewery will be on hand to answers questions about their signature drafts.

• 5-7 p.m., music by Joey Hebdo
• 7-9 p.m., music TBA

Saturday, September 15 from 12 – 8 p.m.
• 8 a.m., North Market merchants and farmers open
• 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., music by Marion Funk on the porch
• 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., face painting
• 12 – 8 p.m., microbreweries open for tasting  on Spruce Street adjacent to the North Market
• 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., music by the Island Breeze Duo on the porch
• 1 – 3 p.m., music by Willie Phoenix on the Spruce Street Stage
• 3 – 5 p.m., music by Gipson & Fitz on the Spruce Street Stage
• 5–7 p.m., music by Miss Molly Winters on the Spruce Street Stage

Sunday, September 16 from 12 – 5 p.m.
• 12 – 5 p.m., microbreweries open for tasting on Spruce Street adjacent to the North Market
• 12 – 2 p.m., music by Hairplane

Festival hours are Friday, September 14 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, September 15 from 12 -8 p.m. and Sunday, September 16 from 12 – 5 p.m. Regular market hours are 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
