Resident Profile – Scott and Laura Kuenzli, 37

Laura was named after her Grandmother (Laura) and Great Grandmother (Grace). Her mother bestowed the nickname “Boo-Boo” upon her when she was young, a name by which her nephew adoringly refers to her to this day. Scott was named after a song that Mac Davis wrote for Bobby Goldsboro, but he has never had a nickname stick. Their surname Kuenzli reflects a German heritage.

The couple rents a house on Oregon Avenue; they have been residents of Harrison West for six years. Prior to that, the Kuenzlis rented in Schumacher Place near German Village, but once their lease was up they “joke” that they wanted to get as far away from their previous landlord. They are now contented renters of former Harrison West resident Gil Borlaza.

Laura was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio while Scott was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. The pair met while going to school in Florida. Scott studied computer engineering but later changed his course of study to English Literature. Laura studied radiology, a path she hopes to return to one day. Ultimately Scott moved to Columbus with Laura after only a few visits.

Scott works as a software developer for a hospital system based in Florida. He got his foot in the door of that occupation through a bit of nepotism, but he has proven his value ever since. Laura has owned and operated Rivet, a vinyl toy store and art gallery, in the Short North since 2007.

For fun the duo likes to hang out with friends, watch movies and attend concerts. Laura also enjoys playing Wii with her nephew. Scott enjoys video gaming as well as visiting museums, aquariums and zoos. He is a voracious follower of politics, current events and modern economic theory.

Laura and Scott appreciate Harrison West’s close proximity to Downtown Columbus and easy access to areas such as Grandview Heights and Clintonville. When out and about in the neighborhood, some of their favorite places include the North Market (for lunch), Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (for a sweet treat) and Surly Girl Saloon (for a drink). To that list Scott adds his personal favorites Da Levee, Tasi, Nida’s Thai on High and Firdous at the North Market.
