Tim Bledsoe, Secretary, Harrison West Society
I have been involved with the Harrison West Society since 1990. When I moved into the area, I met Mary Funk and learned from her the importance of working to improve my neighborhood. The Harrison West Society has grown so much in the last 22 years, and I’m very glad I have been a part of it and been able to work with with such great leaders as Mary Funk and Robert Harris among others.
The wonderful times I remember include planting trees in the tree lawns around Harrison West, walking the neighborhood picking up trash and cutting down weeds—always meeting neighbors along the way. Getting the neighborhood rezoned to protect its historic nature and helping to develop a commercial overlay on West Third Avenue I count among my most satisfying accomplishments, as are working with Mary and Rob to get new playground equipment for Harrison West Park on West Fourth Avenue, contributing to the design and development of Harrison Park and raising funds for the Harrison Park Art Project.
I have been social director for many years and have enjoyed putting together the block parties, holiday parties and other special events. I have also served as secretary of the society for the past several years, and I know that the hours I’ve spent serving have been well worth my time.
If you want to feel like you have done something good for your neighborhood, volunteer. Help make this a better place for everyone who lives here. It’s time well spent.
