A New Website for Harrison West

By Gil Borlaza

If you are reading this article, then clearly you have found the new Harrison West Web site. As part of an effort to modernize the current website and make it a more useful resource for neighborhood residents and visitors, a communications team was assembled by Harrison West Society members Matthew Williams and Mary Martineau. The team, comprised of seven neighborhood residents, began work on designing and developing the new site in November 2009. This site, launched in May 2009, is constructed on a professionally designed template and contains a great deal of new content in addition to the information from the original site.

Until 2009, the Harrison West Society delivered paper newsletters to residents containing news, feature articles and other neighborhood information. The new Web site offers a modernized channel for delivering the same content to residents and visitors in a timelier manner. Furthermore, the site has a positive environmental impact since newsletters are no longer being printed and mailed. Revenue generated by ad sales in the paper newsletters has been replaced by sales of online ads on the Web site. In addition to the site, the Harrison West Society has moved further into the 21st century by distributing information through e-mails to subscribers and a new Facebook page.

Much like the newsletters and original website, the new Harrison West site will include feature articles, a calendar of upcoming events and information pertaining to the Harrison West Society. The site will also provide useful content to residents and visitors including dining and shopping options, parks, crime reports, neighborhood services and bus routes. Users will also be able to register for volunteer opportunities. The real estate updates and neighborhood information are helpful tools for home buyers considering residency in Harrison West. Past feature articles, electronic copies of the original Harrison West News and e-mail blasts from the Society are archived on the site for future reference.

The Harrison West website will continue to evolve throughout the coming months and years. If you have any suggestions for improvement or additional ideas for this site, please leave a comment by clicking on the link directly below this article’s headline.
