Carpe Diem String Quartet Launches 2010-11 Season

Late October Concerts Feature Grammy-Award-Winning Tango Musician

COLUMBUS (September 29, 2010) — Carpe Diem String Quartet kicks off its third annual Seize the Music series with two performances featuring Grammy-Award-winning Tango master Raul Jaurena (www.rauljaurena.com) on October 29 at 8:00 p.m. and on October 31 at 4:00 p.m. at the Harrison Park Community Center.

Jaurena is one of the world’s most prominent bandoneón players. His music pays vibrant tribute to the influences of his native Uruguay and his adopted hometown of New York. It combines the traditional roots of the tango with the style of “Tango Nuevo” influenced by Astor Piazzolla. He will perform original and traditional pieces during both concerts.

A wine and cheese reception will precede the Friday performance at 7:00, and a tea and dessert reception will precede the Sunday performance at 3:00. Guests are invited to mingle with Carpe Diem musicians and friends in the kitchen and then move into the great room for the concert. Carpe Diem will also present a free hour-long family-friendly concert on October 31 at 2:00 p.m. with playful musical selections and interactive exercises.

“We’re a quartet that rocks,” said Chas Wetherbee, Carpe Diem String Quartet violinist. “Our concerts are fun and laid-back experiences that invite people to enjoy music in a completely un-stuffy environment.”

The Harrison Park Community Center is located at 575 West 1st Avenue in Harrison West. Parking is free. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $20 for senior citizens and include the cost of pre-concert refreshments. Carpe Diem’s 2010-2011 season also includes Baroque to Big Band on January 28 and 30; Banjo Mojo on April 15 and 17; and The American Songwriter on May 13.

Carpe Diem String Quartet is an exciting and versatile ensemble that strives to change the chamber music concert experience. It breaks the boundaries of traditional string quartets through thematic programming, audio-visual performances, and audience engagement.
