River Bank Clean-Up, Part III

By Matthew Williams
Progress continues on cleaning up the Olentangy River bank along Harrison Park. The Harrison West Society will be holding our third River Bank Clean-Up on Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. We will be joined by the Sea Bees once again.

We’ll be felling invasive and unhealthy trees and brush and removing brush that has already been cut but not yet hauled away. We’ll need lots of hands, but none of the work will be too difficult. We will need help making sure everyone stays hydrated and getting lunch set up (which will likely mean ordering pizza and waiting for it to be delivered) as well as cutting and chopping and hauling.

Meet us in the brush at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, but remember to wear clothing that covers you fully, including gloves and boots. A lot of poison ivy is entangled with the brush, and the mosquitoes will be out. Bring tools if you have them—ropes, clippers, loppers, limb saws, and rakes will all be useful. The Sea Bees will be operating chainsaws and a chipper.

Lend a hand on October 2, then relax at Katalina’s Carnival at Café Corner from 3 until 9. If you can’t make it Saturday, we’ll still have plenty of work to do on Sunday, October 3. Let’s see how big of a dent we can make in what remains of this big job!
