Lower Olentangy Sewer Project 2024 Construction Update
In mid-July, the 90-inch micro-tunnel under West Second Avenue was completed (see picture of the crane removing the tunneling machine). With the pipe now in place, the construction crew then prepped the sites to construct the final shaft and overflow structures.
In mid-August, construction of the concrete lining of the 2nd Ave shaft on West Second Ave and Perry Street, as well as excavation and concrete lining of the overflow relief structure, began. This will take approximately five to six months to complete. After that, they will begin work on the FMN shaft next to the river. The construction crew will need to line the FMN shaft with concrete and make two sewer tie-ins before they can begin restoration of that site.
Based on this latest schedule, the best estimate for opening up the intersection at West Second Avenue and Perry Street is now January/February of 2025 with West Second Avenue and Bradley Street opening up around April/May of 2025.
Look for new curb and sidewalk from Perry Street to the new wall at the end of West Second Ave to follow. They will replace any panels or curbs that were disturbed during the project. Tree lawns will be put back. Look for overhead lines to be removed. A coordinated plan with Columbus Recreation and Parks will bring trees along West Second Ave and into Harrison Park.
